Hello friends,
Welcome to the very first official post of Table for Four! And what better way to kick things off than with one of Toronto’s most iconic happy hour spots: Cactus Club Café.
Cactus offers two happy hour windows from 2:00 to 5:00 PM and again from 9:00 PM to close, which is honestly perfect. Whether you’re ducking out of work early or meeting friends after dinner, there’s a time slot that works for almost everyone.
We went during the afternoon to the Sherway rooftop location, and we couldn’t have picked a better day. Sunny skies, no wind, and that rooftop glow that just screams summer in the city. We had a reservation and waited just a few minutes to be seated. Despite the crowd, the rooftop didn’t feel overwhelming or claustrophobic at all. It was stylish, open, and surprisingly chill for how busy it was. The music was at the perfect volume, loud enough to set the mood but not so loud that you have to shout to be heard across the table. It really felt like a great place to relax and enjoy the company.
The food
We started with appetizers, and the tuna sushi stack and truffle fries were a strong start. The sushi stack had layers of fresh tuna, creamy avocado, and crispy tempura bits, a really satisfying mix of flavours and textures. The truffle fries were hot, crunchy, and perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of truffle oil. Definitely a top-notch snack to share.
Now onto the mains:
Chipotle Chicken Tacos – These were a bit of a letdown. They were tasty overall, but honestly, there was barely any chicken in them. For the price and expectation, we were hoping for more filling tacos.
Teriyaki Chicken Rice Bowl – This dish was decent but didn’t exactly blow us away. It was fine and enjoyable but kind of forgettable in the grand scheme of things.
Blackened Creole Chicken – This ended up being the surprise star of the night! The chicken was juicy, packed with flavor, and cooked perfectly. Everyone agreed this was the highlight among the mains.
And here’s a fun twist, it happened to be my birthday! The server surprised us by bringing out a blueberry crème brûlée on the house. It was not only beautifully presented but also delicious — creamy, sweet, and a perfect way to end the meal. That thoughtful gesture definitely earned some extra points.
Let’s talk drinks..
If you visit Cactus Club, you absolutely have to try the Bellini, it’s kind of a rite of passage here. It’s fruity, frozen, and only $8 during happy hour. It’s refreshing and never disappoints. We also tried the Frosé, which was good too, though it leaned a bit sweeter. If you’re after something light, refreshing, and boozy, the Bellini is your best bet.
So, is it worth it?
Absolutely. Between the food, drinks, setting, and service, Cactus Club Café really delivers. If you’re smart about what you order, you’ll have a great time without overspending. The portions are decent for happy hour, and the overall vibe makes it an ideal spot for catching up with friends or enjoying a casual outing.
We each spent around $30, left full, and felt like we got real value, not just “happy hour prices” with tiny portions that leave you hungry.
