Hello friends,

Time for a little taste of Mexico... 🇲🇽🌮

And no better spot than Añejo on King West.

If you’re someone who appreciates bold flavours, fun vibes, and a good happy hour deal, this spot might be your new go-to. With not one but two daily happy hours, from 3 to 7 PM and again from 10 PM to close. Añejo gives you double the opportunity to enjoy their signature tacos and margaritas at discounted prices.

We visited around 4:00 PM on a weekday and were pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to get a table. Even without a reservation, the host sat us in under two minutes. The space wasn’t too packed at that hour, which made for a pretty laid-back experience, though you could still feel the energy starting to build.

The restaurant itself is gorgeous, full of bold colours, beautiful murals, warm lighting, and plenty of character. It strikes a nice balance between lively and cozy, with music playing in the background and a setup that’s great for both groups and more intimate hangs. Whether you're on a casual date or catching up with friends, it has the kind of setting that instantly lifts your mood.

Let’s get into the happy hour menu.

While we were excited to try a variety of things, we quickly noticed that the food portion of the menu was limited to tacos only, with no appetizers or sides included in the deal. It would have been nice to have more variety, but we figured we’d make the most of what they did offer. We ended up ordering three tacos each: birria (beef), pork carnitas, and crispy fish. They’re $4 each, which is honestly a solid deal for the quality.

The standout? The beef birria taco. It was juicy, flavorful, and had that slow-cooked richness that hits just right. The pork was a close second, tender and well-seasoned and the crispy fish added a nice crunch, though it was the least bold in flavour out of the three. The tacos come individually, so if you're hungry, you’ll want to order a few, but the portion sizes were decent.

Drinks

As for drinks, we couldn’t resist trying a few of their $7 margaritas. We ordered the guava, strawberry, and chilli coconut, and we genuinely enjoyed all three. They were refreshing, fruity, and felt super summery. The guava margarita was the favourite, smooth, sweet (but not too sweet), and perfectly balanced. A must-try if you go.

Service-wise, it was solid. Our server was polite and attentive, though not particularly memorable. Everything came out quickly and smoothly, so no complaints there, just nothing that stood out.

We ended up spending around $25–30 each after tax and tip, which felt totally fair for the food, drinks, and overall atmosphere. While the happy hour menu could be a bit more diverse, we’d come back for the tacos and margaritas alone, especially with those extended hours.
